8,587 arrested during 2016 unrest in Kashmir: Mehbooba

A total of 8,587 accused people were arrested during the six-month-long unrest in the Valley and out of which 8,473 have been released till January 22, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti told Legislative Assembly today.

She was replying to the 'Cut Motion' by National Conference MLA Mohammad Akbar Lone in the House.

Mehbooba said that "76 civilians", including two police personnel, were killed during the "recent law and order situation in the Kashmir valley".

Around 522 persons were detained under the J&K Public Safety Act as on January 21, out of them 257 have been released, she said.
 

However, Mehbooba said the details of injured persons, including those who lost eyesight, is being compiled in consultation with the Health and Medical Education Department.

The state government has also constituted a committee headed by the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir to identify the persons who have been partially/permanently disabled during the recent law and order disturbances and furnish necessary recommendations in a time-bound manner, she added.
