8 ABVP workers held for violating poll code in C'garh

Eight ABVP workers, including the district unit chief, were arrested for allegedly violating model code of conduct during the recently concluded Chhattisgarh Assembly elections, police said today.

The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad workers had staged a protest here last month without taking official permission as model code was in force in the state,Raigarh Superintendent of Police Rahul Bhagat told PTI.

On October 26, about 60 workers of ABVP led by its district chief Pravin Dwivedi staged a protest against the Congress-led UPA government in connection with coal scam and burnt effigy of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Later, a case was registered against 10 ABVP workers in this connection and eight of them were arrested yesterday, the SP said, adding that efforts were on to nab two other workers.
 

Those arrested were produced before the court of chief judicial magistrate G K Neelam last evening which sent them in judicial remand till December 8.
