8 arrested for bank robbery; cash, jewellery seized

Eight persons have been arrested in connection with robbery at a branch of Central Bank of India in Mainpat town of Chhattisgarh's Surguja district and cash and jewellery were seized from them, police said today.

Five persons hailing from Bihar and Jharkhand and three locals were arrested yesterday for their alleged involvement in the daylight robbery of Rs 19 lakh at the Narmadapur-based branch of the bank on March 17, Surguja Superintendent of Police R S Nayak said.

Those arrested were identified as Rajesh Sahay, Raju Kumar Verma, Vinod Kumar Verma, Gendu Singh and Munna Pandey, natives of Bihar and Jharkhand, and Shailendra Tiwari, Anjil Dansena and Sibal Sai from Chhattisgarh's Raigarh district, he said.
 

Besides, Rs 5.5 lakh cash, jewellery, three country-made pistols, live rounds and 13 mobile phones were also recovered from their possession, he added.

A case has been registered in this connection, he said, adding that further probe was on.
