Eight persons were arrested today and 32 cattle, being allegedly transported to Kolkata for slaughter, were seized from them in Sasroula area here.
"Police stopped two trucks this morning and seized 20 cows and 12 calves. The eight accused who were on the two trucks were also arrested," SP (Rural) Surendra Tiwari said.
During interrogation the accused, identified as, Chandrasekhar, Ram Asre, Ram Shanker, Gambhir, Usman, Soshkumar, Satyavir, Raju, confessed to transporting the cattle for slaughter, he said.
The trucks bearing registration numbers of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan were impounded, police said, adding an FIR has been lodged and searches are on to apprehend other gang members.
