8 arrested, Illegal arms, liquor seized in police raids

Eight persons were arrested and illegal arms, liquor and fake currency notes seized during two separate raids conducted by police and excise officials here, officials said today.

Acting on a tip off, police today raided a house at Jogi More locality in disturbed Kaliachak police station area, Superintendent of Police Arnab Ghosh said.

They seized six pipeguns, two muskets, one rifle and 20 cartridges, besides Rs 50,000 in cash which was suspected to be counterfeit.

Gosh said three persons, including two from Jharkhand, were arrested from the house from where the arms and cash were seized.

Meanwhile, police and excise department officials unearthed two illicit country liquor factories and arrested five persons from Kaliachak and Baishnab Nagar police station areas of Malda district.
 

Excise Superintended Suprabhat Biswas said the factories were unearthed at Mothabari in Kaliachak and in Baishnab Nagar.

Five persons were also arrested from the places, he said.

Altogether 21.675 litre of finished liquor, raw materials, bottles, labels and liquor manufacturing equipment were seized during the raids last night, Biswas said.
