Odisha police today arrested eight persons for their alleged involvement in the killing of BJD councillor Laxmidutta Pradhan in Ganjam district.

"We are trying to nab others involved in the murder," Superintendent of Police (Ganjam), Ashish Kumar Singh said.

A group of men had on September 16 dragged Laxmidutta Pradhan (35), councillor of ward no. 6 in Chhatrapur Notified Area Council (NAC), out of his house and attacked him with sharp weapons, following which he succumbed to injuries in a hospital.

The SP said CCTV footage obtained from the house of Pradhan helped the police to nab the accused.

Police have also seized a car, three motor-cycles, a blood-stained sword, a broken wooden baton and a hard-disk of CCTV camera footage, from the accused persons.

Enmity is suspected to be the cause of the killing, Singh added.
