8 auto lifters arrested, 25 bikes recovered

The Indirapuram police today claimed to have arrested eight alleged motorcycle lifters and recovered 25 stolen bikes from them.

Superintendent of police (SP) Akash Tomar said the arrested persons stole motorcycles in the National Capital Region (NCR).

Following a tip off, the police nabbed eight alleged thieves from a Shiv temple in Indirapuram where they had gathered to chalkout plan for selling the stolen bikes, the official claimed.

The arrested have been identified as Aaftab, Danish, Ankur, Bhopal, Dinesh, Manoj, Mehraj, and Suhail, he said.

After questioning them, the police recovered 24 bikes from shanties in Indirapuram.

They confessed that they used to steal, parked motor cycles outside the malls and hospitals by unlocking them with master keys, the official said.
 

"The bike-lifters were trained and accustomed to changing registration number plates within no time after they stole vehicles," the officer added.
