8 booked in cheating case

Eight people, including the Rural development and Panchayat Deputy Director, were today booked by police in a cheating case for trying to transfer a land that they had already sold to an NRI.

The accused allegedly tried to transfer a piece of government land in Pathankot town in connivance with land mafia, police said.

Sucha Singh, a resident of Tellianwal here, had sold land measuring 4 kanal and 1 marla to an NRI, Baljinder Singh, a resident of Sarna town in Pathankot district recently.

After the land deal, Baljinder returned to England and Sucha in connivance with land mafia and officials of Rural Development and Panchayat, and revenue department tried to get a land, measuring 15 kanal and 14 marla of Community Development and Training Centre (CDTC) at Pathankot, transferred in lieu of same land which he had already sold to Baljinder.
 

The land which belonged to the CDTC valued at Rs 35 crore. However, the Pathankot Deputy Commissioner refused to transfer it.

In the meantime, Baljinder brought the matter to the notice of police, which after probing the issue registered a case of cheating against Sucha, Brij Mohak Sood, resident of Kandhrori district Kangra, Dilbag Rai and his wife, both residents of Gumtal in Kangra district in Himachal Pardesh, Jaspal Singh - Deputy Director Rural Development and Panchayat Mohali; Kamaljit Singh Patwari; Nirmal Singh - a retired Tehsildar and Parmanand - Tehsildar Tarn Taran.

No arrests have been made in this connection so far, police said.
