8 foreigners among 14 tourists injured in road mishap in Leh

Fourteen tourists including eight foreigners were injured when their vehicle skidded off the road and turned turtle in Leh district of Ladakh region today.

The mishap occurred around 1100 AM on the highway near Sangam belt of Nimu tehsil when a minibus travelling from Sangam to Chilling carrying 14 tourists turned turtle on the roadside due to the bursting of the right rear tyre, a Defence spokesman said.

The Army troops from 14 Corps returning after rafting saw the ill fated-vehicle and immediately came to the rescue of the trapped passengers, the spokesman said, adding that without any delay the injured were evacuated to Military Hospital at Nimu.
 

Eight tourists were severely injured and six had sustained minor injuries, the spokesman said.

Out of the 8 foreigners, four each were males and females from New York, Israel and Nepal, he said.

The six Indian tourists included four males and two females from Mumbai.

The Army personnel showed exemplary courage, initiative and great presence of mind in the rescue operation, he added.
