8 get life for murder of two traders

A local court today convicted and sentenced eight persons to life imprisonment for murdering two traders six years ago.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Ali also slapped a fine of Rs 20,000 each on them.

Devender Kumar and Pushpender, both traders, were shot dead on August 25, 2008 and their bodies thrown in river Ganga in Yogenderpuri locality here.

Earlier, the Allahabad High Court had asked the lower court to expedite the trial and conclude it by September 9.

Anirudh Kumar, Basant Bhat and his son Sanjay Bhat, Rajnish, Sanket Sharma, Bhanu Gehlot, Satpal and Nitu were awarded life imprisonment, said Ritu Choudhry, assistant district government counsel.
 

One more accused in the case was on the run since the day of double murder.
