8 gets seven years in jail in 2009 attempt to murder case

A court here today sentenced seven years in jail to eight persons in an attempt to murder case.

Additional Sessions Judge Rajesh Bhardwaj also slapped a fine of Rs 4,000 on each of the convicts--Jafer, Rashid, Wali, Ayyub, Faiyaz, Arshad, Shakil and Jalu after holding them guilty under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon) and 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of Rs 50) IPC.

According to prosecution lawyer Qayyum Ali, five persons were injured in a clash, in March 2009, between two groups belonging to same community over damaging the wall of a mosque at Rudkali village in the district.
