Chief Judicial Magistrate, Suresh Chand Areya, directed the police yesterday after the deceased's son alleged that his father, Charan Singh, was poisoned to death by the jail officials.
He identified eight officials, including then Jail Superintendent R N Tripathi, Jailer Mukesh Kumar, Deputy Jailer S Singh, Chief Warden R N Sharma, Wardens Ajit Kumar Tiwari, Ashok Kumar Gupta, Satish Sharma and Rakesh Kumar as being involved in his father's death.
Earlier, a magisterial inquiry had been ordered into the death which found negligence on the part of the officials in not providing timely medical treatment to the prisoner, the petition said.
According to the viscera report of the deceased, poison was found in his body. However, no action was taken against officials, it said.
