8 killed, 1 missing in China flash floods

At least eight persons including a child have been killed after they were swept away in a flash flood that struck northwest China's Shaanxi Province with one person still unaccounted for, authorities said today.

The flood triggered by incessant rains hit Xiaoyuhecun Valley last afternoon. The precipitation was recorded at 145.7 mm, the highest in the past 30 years, reports said.

The death toll of rain triggered flood in northwest China's Shaanxi Province has reached eight, as three more bodies, including one of a child, were recovered today.

One person is still missing, the publicity department of Chang'an District in Xi'an city, capital of Shaanxi said.
 

Thirteen people were washed away from a riverside restaurant at Xiaoyuhe Village in Chang'an District at around 5:15 PM local time yesterday out of whom four were rescued, the department said.

The Xi'an Municipal Meteorological Observatory issued a yellow alert for the storm yesterday, warning that torrential rain may cause landslides and floods, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

Rescuers are still searching for the missing.
