8 killed, 27 injured as vehicles collide head-on

Eight people were killed and 27 other suffered injuries today while returning from a wedding party when their van collided with a bus on national highway 75 here.

The incident occurred around 10 PM when the van collided head-on with the bus coming from the opposite direction, Sub- Divisional Officer, Arun Ranjan said.

Eight passengers, including four women and as many children, were killed on the spot, while 27 others injured, the SDO said.

The incident took place near Sikni village under the jurisdiction of Chandwa police station, the police said.

All the victims were residents of Jobhia village of Latehar, Ranjan said.
 

They were returning after attending a wedding ceremony at Chamrenga village under the jurisdiction of Balurmath police station, he said.

About 50 passengers were on board the van when the mishap took place. While 12 injured were rushed to Sadar Hospital in Latehar, 15 others were taken to the Chandwa Health Centre.

They were later referred to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences, Ranchi, he said.
