8 killed as bus rolls down gorge in Himachal

Eight persons were today killed and seven others seriously injured when a private bus from Uttarakhand fell into a deep gorge near Fedej bridge in Chopal area of the district, about 150 km from here.

The mishap occurred when the bus carrying 23 passengers from Vikas Nagar to Tuni rolled down the gorge near the bridge at Antrawali, police said.

While seven persons died on the spot, another succumbed to injuries on his way to a hospital at Nerwa.

The injured persons have been admitted to the hospital, police said, adding, the bodies have been recovered and sent for post-mortem.
 

Himachal Pradesh Governor Kalyan Singh and Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh expressed grief over the accident and conveyed their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. They also wished for early recovery of the injured persons.

The chief minister directed the district administration to provide immediate relief to the affected families.
