8 killed as minibus collides with tractor near Agra

Eight persons were killed when a minibus in which they were returning to Midhakur town, about 15 km from Agra, collided head-on with a tractor near Runkuta town of Agra district.

The accident took place last night when the staff of Saraswati Niketan, Intermediate College of Midhakur were returning from Vrindavan, police said.

The mishap occurred because of poor visibility caused by fog, they said.

Two of the victims died on the spot, while six others were pronounced dead soon after reaching the hospital, police said, adding the deceased include the manager of the intermediate college, four lady teachers, the driver of the minibus and the truck driver, they said.
 

The impact was so severe that the minibus containing a total of 19 people somersaulted three times, before stopping and was broken into two, police said.

The 12 injured, including the Principal of the College Sudha Singh, have been admitted to S N Hospital Agra for treatment.

SP City Sameer Saurabh, ASP Shailesh Pandey, Circle Officer Ashok Kumar Singh and SDM Rekha Chauhan reached the accident site to arrange for relief and rescue work.
