8 killed in UP due to rains, several villages submerged

Heavy downpour continued to wreck havoc in several parts of Uttar Pradesh as at least eight people died in rain-related incidents in different parts of the state while several villages in Gorakhpur district were submerged.

Three people each died in Kaushambi and Fatehpur districts while two others were killed in Auraiya in rain and flood-related incidents.

In Kaushambi, Subhash (18), his sister Laxmi (9) and Kundra (5) were killed when a wall of their mud house collapsed in Pathrawan village. Rajneesh (12) and Priyanka (9) were killed when their house collapsed in Karkapur village of Auraiya.

In Fatehpur, Kalawati (7O), Nisha (32) and Babu (3) were killed when their house collapsed due to heavy rain in Salraha village, sources said.
 

A report from Gorakhpur said that about 50 revenue villages in Belghat area were marooned due to the surging Ghaghra and Quano rivers and out of them 15 are totally submerged.

Boats have been made available to shift the affected people to safer areas, the report said.

Central Water Commission sources said the Ganga river continued to flow above the danger mark at Ghazipur and Ballia and Yamuna at Prayag Ghat at Mathura.

The Sharda river was flowing above the red mark at Palia Kalan and the Ghaghra river at Elgin Bridge, Ayodhya and Turtipar.

Sources said that Varanasi received 74.8 mm rain and Mirzapur 62.8 mm rain.
