At least eight more bodies were recovered today from Larji dam during desilting, nearly two-and-a-half months after a private bus accident July last at Sarsari on Kullu-Manikaran Road in which 23 people were killed and 23 others were feared to have been washed away.

Suspecting that the bodies could be of July 23 bus mishap victims, their relatives have been informed to come to the spot to identify the bodies, a senior official said.

Eight persons were killed and 26 others were feared to have been washed away as the bus they were travelling by plunged into turbulent Parbati River at Sarsari Kullu district in that accident. 15 other persons were injured in the mishap.

The dam authorities started routing desilting operations this morning and after flushing out water, desilting work started and till this evening eight bodies, sunk 20 ft-deep in the silt were recovered, Deputy Commissioner, Kullu, Rakesh Kanwar said.

There are chances of recovering more bodies as dead bodies keep flowing into the dam and remained untraced.

Massive rescue operations were launched for nearly a month by NDRF, ITBP, Navy, Power project and police rescuers but only 23 bodies could be recovered while remaining 23 bodies were untraced.

Seven bodies were recovered on the day of the mishap and two bodies were recovered the next day while remaining bodies were recovered in coming days.
