Currently 33 government-run hospitals and a number of private hospitals are offering treatment to dengue affected patients. The decision to extend treatment facilities for dengue patients was taken at a meeting chaired by Health Minister A K Walia.
Walia said 450 cases of dengue have been reported in the city till today since outbreak of the disease early this month.
In the meeting called to review the situation arising out of rising number of dengue cases, Walia directed all the government and private hospitals having platelet separator machines and blood banks to ensure that there was no shortage of platelets which is vital for treatment of dengue patients.
"The hospitals have been ordered to produce platelet round-the-clock so that there was no shortage," the Minister said. The hospitals have been directed to employ extra manpower, if required, to ensure continuous production and supply of platelets to dengue patients.
There are 53 blood banks in Delhi out of which 39 are in private sectors.
The meeting was attended by top officials of health department, municipal corporations, medical superintendents of all major Delhi government hospitals and representatives of blood banks of Red Cross and Lions Club.

The blood banks in the governments hospitals should supply platelets not only to their indoor patients but to patients from private hospitals and nursing homes also as per their requirement, Walia told the meeting.
The Minister said government would soon come out with details of all the hospitals providing treatment for dengue patients.
Walia directed the health officials of Delhi Government and municipal bodies to create public awareness with regard to prevention and control of dengue through mass-media, public representatives and school children.
Directions have also been issued to civic bodies to carry out fogging across the city, specifically in areas near railway lines and slum clusters. He said that growing number could also be attributed to the emphasis of Delhi Government on comprehensive reporting by hospitals and nursing homes.
