The BSF today seized eight packets, each weighing 250 grams, of a substance suspected to be heroin from a field near the International Border under Dona Telu Mal Border Outpost area in Ferozepur sector.

Based on basis of specific information received on concealment of narcotics in a field ahead of the International Border security fence, at around 12:30 PM, a special search operation was launched, a BSF official said.

"Eight packets of a contraband suspected to be heroin were found buried in the field by the search party," he said, adding the BSF's vigil had once again thwarted an attempt to smuggle contraband into India.

The BSF had made a similar seizure from a field under Barreke Border Outpost in the sector on December 3.
