8 police athletes test positive for banned substance

During the above championship held at JLN Stadium and IG Stadium from March 27-30, NADA had organised Dope Control Programme and collected 47 urine samples.

According to the analytical reports of sample 'A' received from the National Dope Testing Laboratory (NDTL), eight samples out of 47 have been found containing prohibited substances notified by the World Anti Doping Agency (WADA).

"The substances reported are Furosemide (Diuretics) Mephentermine, Stimulant, Methylhexaneamine, Stimulant, Nandrolone, Anabolic Steroid, and Methandienone, Anabolic Steroid. The athletes involved belong to BSF, CRPF, Haryana Police and Punjab Police," NADA Director General, Rahul Bhatnagar said in a statement.

"In percentage terms, this is 17 per cent, which is much higher than the national average of 4 per cent," the release added.

 

During the 60th All India Police Athletics Championships held at JLN Stadium from March 12-15 here, out of a total of 55 samples collected, eight were found to be positive, that is as high as 15 per cent.

"These samples were drawn from BSF, CRPF, ITBP, Odhisha Police and Punjab Police athletes," said the release.
