8 quintal explosives seized

Eight quintal of explosive materials were seized and one person was arrested from a passenger bus near Chandikhole in Odhisha's Jajpur district today, the police said.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team stopped the bus near Chandikhole, searched it and seized the explosives -- 5.5 quintal Sulphur powder, 2.4 quintal Aluminium Sulphate and 10 kg Magnesium.

"Such explosives are used to make bombs or hand grenades and similar types of works," said Jajpur Superintendent of Police, Deepak Kumar.

The explosive materials were found in some boxes which were kept on luggage area and covered with the tarpaulin atop the bus.
 

Atintya Sundar Sahu (26) of Tigiria in Cuttack district was arrested for carrying the materials in the private bus which was on its way from Kolkata to Dhenkanal, the sources said.

The driver, conductor and helper of the bus were detained for questioning.
