Eighty employees of the government medical college hospital here, who were on relay fast for the past one week demanding reinstatement of over 200 dismissed temporary workers, were arrested today, police said.
The employees were observing fast in front of the hospital to press their demand that 230 temporary workers, who were dismissed over a period of time, be reinstated.
Hospital dean Meenakshi Sundaram told PTI all the workers, who were terminated were workers of an NGO, engaged for taking care of the cleanliness and other aspects of the hospital and not directly employed by the Hospital.

Besides they were unskilled workers, and in their place trained and skilled workers had been appointed.
Officials claimed even the court had rejected the appeal of the workers against their dismissal.
