80 kg ganja seized, one held

A man has been arrested for allegedly possessing 80 kg ganja (cannabis) worth around Rs 4 lakh from Vatva area in the city, police said today.

Acting on a tip-off, the accused, Shailesh Jadhav, was arrested from Ropda Crossroad in Vatva area near Ring Road in the city yesterday and the illegal substance was recovered from his car, City Crime Branch said in a statement.

"During his interrogation, Jadhav told that he had brought it from a Surat-based man named Sitaram and was supposed to hand it over to one Satendrasingh Sikarwar in the city," the statement said.

Jadhav has been involved in the illegal trade of ganja since the last three years and also worked as a carrier of the prohibited substance, the statement said.
 

The crime branch has also seized Jadhav's car, cellphone and cash of Rs 11,000, it said.

Police have registered an FIR under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act against Jadhav and further investigation is on, it said.
