The Bangalore Central Jail at Parappana Agrahara has already 120 supermax Cells to lodge terrorists and others arrested on charges of heinous crime including land mafia, Minister for Social Welfare and Prisons, A Narayanaswamy told reporters today.

Another 80 such cells would be added with Rs two crore expenditure, he said.

About 100 such high security cells in Bellary would soon be repaired, he said.

Recently, the City Crime Branch (CCB) police nabbed 14 persons who had links with banned LeT and HuJI militant outfits, uncovering a major terror module.

Narayaswamy said by next month phone jammers which could block calls even from 3G enabled operators would be installed at the Bangalore jail.

The telephone jamming gadgets have been procured from Bulgaria at a cost of Rs 25 lakh, he said.

The NHRC has recommended for providing landline telephone facility to jail inmates and the government would write to the commission seeking permission not to install phones.

Despite installing jammers, some calls were made from Bangalore jail to Pakistan about a year ago, he pointed out.

He said the Bangalore jail has been overcrowded with 4600 inmates as against its capacity of 2200.
