800 cartons of foreign liquor seized; 7 arrested from Saran

The Special Task Force (STF) today seized 800 cartons of India Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and arrested seven persons in this connection from Sonepur police station area of Bihar's Saran district.

Inspector General (Operations) Kundan Krishnan said acting on a tip off, the STF team seized 800 cartons of IMFL from a truck, which was brought from Haryana.

The cartons, each having 12 bottles, were covered by onion bags, Kumar said.

The STF has arrested the main accused Mohan Kumar along with six others including the truck driver Mohammad Akhlaque and cleaner Mohammad Mausam, both residents of Bichhaur village of Gurgaon district of Haryana, Krishnan said adding, Mohan and four others are the residents of Saran district.
 

The liquor consignment was to be delivered at Mohan Kumar's factory 'Alkemi magic bislery mineral water' located on Gola road near bypass in Sonepur, the IG said adding, Mohan had placed the order by paying Rs 20 lakh in advance to two suppliers of Gurgaon in Haryana.

The Police have also seized ten empty cartons of liquor from Mohan's factory along with a car, a motorcycle and more than a dozen mobile phones during the raid, the IG said.

The Bihar government had on October 2 notified the Bihar Prohibition and Excise Act 2016 banning manufacture, trade, storage, transportation, possession, sale and consumption of liquor and foreign liquor with stringent provisions incorporated under the law.

As per the new liquor law, persons violating the law could attract a minimum ten years of jail term, which may extend to imprisonment for life, besides a minimum fine of Rs one lakh, which may extend to Rs ten lakh.
