82,000 polling staff to be deployed in Haryana

About 82,000 poling staff would be deputed at 16,244 polling stations for free and fair conduct of Lok Sabha elections for the 10 seats in Haryana on April 10.

About 50,000 electronic voting machines (EVMs) would be used for voting in the state which include 18,000 control units and about 32,000 ballot units, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Shrikant Walgad said today.

There are 230 candidates, including 11 women, would be in the fray for the 10 seats, he said.

A maximum numbers of 41 candidates are contesting from Hisar Parliamentary constituency whereas the least number of candidates, 14 each are from Ambala and Rohtak.
 

Candidates include eight of BJP, 10 of BSP, two of CPI, three of CPM, 10 each of INC and INLD, two of HJC (BL), 64 of registered political parties and 121 Independents, he said.

Ten general observers alongwith 10 expenditure observers have been deputed in the state besides one police observer, two awareness observers and about 10 micro observers.
