841 police personnel gets medals; JK Police lead in gallantry

A total of 841 police and paramilitary personnel, with Jammu and Kashmir policemen getting a maximum of 35 gallantry medals, have been decorated with Presidents' Police Medals and other categories of service medals on the occasion of the 67th Republic Day tomorrow.

A Home Ministry statement said President's Police Medals for Gallantry (PPMG) have been awarded to three personnel, Police Medals for Gallantry (PMG) to 121 personnel, President's Police Medals for distinguished service to 89 officials and for meritorious service to 628 personnel.

Breaking record of almost four years, jawans and officers of Jammu and Kashmir police have received a maximum of 35 gallantry medals followed by paramilitary CRPF which got 24 for the dare-devil exploits of its personnel in various theatres of internal security.
 

The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has been regining the gallantry medals tally for four years for conducting numerous anti-Naxal operations in the Left Wing Extremism (LWE) hit affected states.

Border Security Force (BSF) constable Rocky has also become the lone paramilitary trooper to be accorded with the 'Shaurya Chakra', the third highest military medal for bravery in peace times, and his colleague Subhendu Roy is the lone winner of the PPMG this time for thwarting a daring terrorist attack on their convoy in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur last year.

In a first, two troopers of the the border guarding Indo- Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Assistant Commandant Deepak Singh and Head Constable Kanwar Singh, have been decorated with the PMG for bravely standing like a wall during one of the longest standoff's with the Chinese PLA in 2014.

The CRPF men received these citations and awards for their operations in Jammu and Kashmir and LWE areas.
