In an early morning shocker, as many as 85 vehicles, most of them two-wheelers, were set on fire by unknown miscreants in the parking lots of various residential societies in Sun City area here today.

The burnt vehicles included 77 two-wheelers and eight cars, police inspector of Sinhagad police station B Kashid said.

It was a nightmare for the residents when they saw charred remains of the vehicles in the parking space of their respective housing societies, located in the same locality that also included a Pizza outlet where over 25 motorbikes parked outside the shop used by the delivery boys were gutted in the fire.

"We are studying CCTV footage available. But no one has been arrested so far", the officer told PTI this evening.

Police detained and interrogated a suspect, reportedly an anti-social element in the Sinhagad road area where Sun City is situated.

The culprits reportedly unplugged the petrol tubes of the vehicles and set them on fire between 3 AM to 4 AM, the residents said.

Based on the CCTV footage, police have issued two sketches of the suspects.

The city witnessed a similar incident a few months ago in Dhankwadai area where number of vehicles burnt was much less.
