The man in question has still not been identified and the elderly woman has given her son's name as Dilip, police said today.

The incident took place in mid-July, when Hansa Rajput was found on the promenade outside Bombay Hospital, they said.

"No case as of now has been registered against the unidentified person, who has abandoned his mother," said DCP (Detection) Dhananjay Kulkarni, adding, the were searching for the person.

"In such a situation, appropriate action, if any, as per the law can be initiated only after he is nabbed," he added.

Almost for 24 hours, the lady was lying on the promenade waiting for her son to take her back home, said police.

An ayurvedic doctor, Niranjan Patel, who was passing from nearby, spotted Rajput, who appeared in a bad condition and immediately informed the Police Control Room. Police personnel visited the spot and admitted her in GT Hospital in South Mumbai.

According to the police, the woman, whose health condition is not improving, doesn't recollect anything except that his son's name is Dilip and he stays somewhere in Ganesh Galli area of Central Mumbai.

Meanwhile, political parties like Shiv Sena and MNS as well as NGOs, especially those looking after the senior citizens, have come forward to help the woman. Their representatives met the doctors of GT Hospital and offered to extend all possible assistance to Rajput, police said.
