After scrutiny of the nomination papers, only two candidates -- UPA nominee Pranab Mukherjee and opposition candidate P A Sangma -- were left in the fray.
Thirty-three applications filed by 28 persons were rejected at the time of presentation itself as they were not accompanied by a certified copy of the electoral roll, V K Agnihotri, Secretary General, Rajya Sabha and the Returning Officer for the Presidential polls said.
He said out of the 73 nomination papers taken up for scrutiny, 65 nomination papers were rejected for want of requisite numbers of proposers and seconders, non-submission of the deposit of Rs 15,000 and lack of genuine signatures of proposers and seconders.
