As many as 868 children are to be operated upon at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in the next three years, the government today said.
Replying to a question in Lok Sabha on children waiting for surgery at AIIMS, Minister of Health and Family Welfare, J P Nadda said that out 868 children, 609, 248 and 11 children are waiting for surgery in the year 2015, 2016 and 2017 respectively.
"The Institute has made Tuesday a full-time Operation Theatre day for the Department of Paediatric Surgery which was earlier up to 2 pm only".

A total number of 135 new-born babies have died at the Neo-natal Surgery Intensive Care Unit in a span of three years, he said.
Replying to another question on cases of female foeticide, the minister said that 132, 210 and 221 cases were registered under it during 2011, 2012 and 2013 respectively.
"The Health Ministry has taken up the matter with the Department of Electronics and Information Technology for blocking of advertisements relating to pre-natal sex determination test on internet," he said.
"The department informed that if any specific advertisement or web page violating Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Technique Act, 1994, is brought to the notice of the government, immediate action is taken with due priority within the ambit of the provision of Section 69 A of the Information Technology Act 2000," the minister said.
