9 die of dengue in Tirunelveli zone this month

Nine persons have succumbed to dengue fever so far this month in the three districts of Tirunelveli, Tuticorin and Kanyakumari, state Health Minister Dr C Vijay Baskar said today.

After chairing a high-level zonal review meeting on dengue attended by three District Collectors and officials of health and other departments, he told reporters that a total of 95 persons affected by the viral fever were admitted to the Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital here during the month.

Of this, nine died while 16 were undergoing treatment and 69 discharged, he added.

Minister for Municipal Administration and Rural Development S P Velumani, Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan, Rural Development Secretary Gagandeep Singh Bedi, District Collectors of Tirunelveli, Tuticorin and Kanyakumari M Karunakran, M Ravikumar and Sajjan Singh R Chavan respectively were among those who attended the meeting.
 

Various measures, including preventive steps such as eradicating breeding sources of mosquitoes, were discussed during the meeting.
