In a fog-induced pile-up involving a school bus, a truck, and a poultry van, 11 persons - nine of them female school teachers - sustained minor injuries at Chaheru railway over-bridge on National highway 1 here today, police said.

The injured, all aged between 25-30 years, were rushed to Phagwara civil hospital.

The pile-up took place due to poor visibility owing to a thick blanket of fog when the teachers were coming to nearby Kamla Nehru Public School at Chak Hakeem village, police said.

The 11 injured includes nine female teachers, a male teacher, and the driver of the school bus, police said.

Phagwara DSP Manpreet Singh Dhillon confirmed the incident and said though poor visibility appears to have caused the accident police are investigating the human error angle too.

Meanwhile, Medical Officer(MO) Dr Rajinder said all the injured were discharged after administering first aid.

School sources said the teachers left for their homes as the routine winter vacation in the school starts from today and runs till 4 January.

"Today was the last working day. School was closed earlier for the vacation," they said.
