9 file nomination for Anantnag assembly bypoll

Nine candidates, including Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and independent MLA from Langate Sheikh Abdul Rashid, have filed their nomination papers for by-election to Anantnag assembly constituency in south Kashmir which is scheduled to go to polls on June 19.

Seven nomination papers were filed today, the last date of filing the nomination for the by-election, an official spokesman said.

He said Mehbooba, opposition National Conference (NC) candidate Iftikhar Hussain Misgar and Rashid filed their nomination papers today.

The total number of nominations filed has reached nine, including six independents and three from political parties, the spokesman said.

He said the candidates who have filed their nominations are PDP's Mehbooba, Hilal Ahmad Shah of Congress AND Misgar of NC. Besides Sheikh, Tejinder Singh, Manzoor Ahmad Khan, Mujeeb-Ur-Rahman, Masroor Ahmad Mir and Mushtaq Ahmad Shah have filed nomination as independents.
 

The spokesman said the scrutiny of nomination papers would be held on June 2 at the office of Returning Officer, while as nominations can be withdrawn by June 4.
