9 house-breaking thefts in six hours in Mumbai

As many as nine house-breaking thefts and six attempts for such burglaries were reported in the city in a span of six hours, police said today.

The thefts and the attempted thefts took place between last night and early morning today at few chawls in Ashok Nagar area in suburban Kanjurmarg, an official attached to the Kanjurmarg Police Station said.

The thieves stole valuables, worth over Rs 5 lakh, and fled the spot, he said.

Police are suspecting handiwork of a single gang and said the unidentified thieves would have conducted a recce of the area before committing the crime.
 

The families, who resided in the houses, were not present in the house when the alleged crime took place. The matter was reported by the neighbours of those families, they said.

15 cases have been lodged in this regard and CCTV footage from the neighbouring places is being gathered, police said, adding, help of a dog squad is also being taken.

However, no headway has been made into the case, police said the same.
