Nine persons were today injured after followers of Sirsa-based Dera Sacha Sauda and members of a radical Sikh organisation allegedly clashed with each other near village Jogewala in the district, police said.

The police fired several shots in the air to control the mob.

DIG, Ferozepur range, Munish Chawla, SSP Ferozepur, Sukhwant Singh Gill and other police officials reached the spot with heavy police force to control the situation, an official said.

Earlier, the clash erupted when the Dera followers were going towards village Mehmoodwala to perform 'naam charcha' (prayer) when they were stopped in between village Jogewala and Mehmoodwala by members of 'Ek Noor Khalsa Fauj' from going ahead which led to the melee.

Heavy police force had been deployed to prevent the clash but the two groups started pelting stones at each other and brandished swords which made the situation tense.

Four followers belonging to 'Ek Noor Khalsa Fauj' and five Dera followers were injured and were rushed to the hospital.

Deputy Commissioner DPS Kharbanda along with Sukhwant Singh Gill held separate meetings with the two factions and brought the situation under control by the late afternoon after the clash occurred earlier in the day.

Meanwhile, both the sides were demanding registration of cases against each other.
