Six of the nine inmates who escaped from a state-run juvenile home in Tamil Nadu's Chengalpattu area, after allegedly assaulting its guard and an official, were today nabbed by the police.

The nine offenders, aged between 16-18, made their escape last night from the State Social Defense Department-run Government Children's Home for Boys at Chengalpattu, about 30 km from here.

"Till now we have arrested six of them mostly from around the home's vicinity," Deputy Superintendent of Police, Mugilan told PTI.

He said, most of them who managed to escaped were involved allegedly in theft and robberies cases.

Chengalpattu Town Police Inspector Saravanan said they have registered cases against the juveniles for allegedly attacking the guard and another employee of the compound.

"They say they wanted to go home and meet their families," Mugilan said, adding "the remaining three will be nabbed soon."

A similar incident happened in 2013 when inmates ran away from the Home but were later brought back by police.
