9 killed as bus hits bridge railing in Chhattisgarh

Nine persons, including three women and a child, were killed and six others injured after the passenger bus they were travelling in crashed into railing of a bridge in the district today, police said.

The incident occurred near Madanpur village under Morga police outpost, said Korba Additional Superintendent of Police Lal Umed Singh.

As per the preliminary investigation, the driver lost control over the vehicle near Redh nullah and it hit the railing, the officer said, adding, the impact shattered the bus' windscreen due to which some passengers fell off the bridge while the bus was left hanging.

At the time of the mishap, 32 passengers were onboard the bus which was heading towards Korba from Surajpur, Singh said.
 

He said all the victims were killed on the spot while the injured were shifted to a local hospital in Korba.

The driver of the bus fled from the spot after the incident, the ASP said.

A case has been registered in this connection.
