9 killed in road accident in Nepal

At least nine persons, including a woman, were killed and seven others injured when an overcrowded jeep skidded of a slippery road in Nepal's Doti district.

The jeep, carrying 16 persons, skidded off the mountain road yesterday at Botagan area, while it was going to Chabara Chautara from Dipayal.

The deceased include eight men and one woman. All of them were residents of Simcghaur Chapartola situated in Bogtan Rural Municipality, District Police Office, Doti was quoted as saying by My Republica.

The accident might have taken place since the jeep was carrying passengers beyond its carrying capacity, the police said.
 

The injured have been rushed to Dipayal-based Sujang Hospital for treatment. The condition of four of the injured is critical, the police said.

Poor condition of roads and ill-maintained vehicles are major reasons behind frequent road accidents in the Himalayan nation.

In April, At least three Indians were killed on the spot and another person was critically injured when a truck rammed their car at a highway in southwest Nepal.
