9 people killed in cylinder blast at wedding function in Raj

Nine people, including three children and as many women, were killed and 18 others injured when a LPG cylinder exploded during a wedding ceremony in Beawar town of Rajasthan's Ajmer district, police said today.

The explosion occurred last night when the wedding function was underway at a hotel, Ajmer District Collector Gaurav Goyal said, adding the explosion severely damaged the three-storey hotel.

Bodies of nine people have been recovered while 18 others were injured, he said, adding rescue operation was on to trace the nine missing people.

Two cars parked outside the hotel and the adjoining buildings were also damaged in the incident, police said.
 

The collector said nearly 150 people are involved in the rescue operation, which is being carried out manually fearing that people are stuck under debris.
