The government today stated that "the girl was not assaulted but collapsed of sickness."
"During the investigation, it has been found that the nine-year-old girl was not sexually assaulted and died of cardio-respiratory arrest and multi-organ failure," the BJP-ruled government said in a statement here.
Six persons, including two teachers, have been arrested in connection with the rape of minor inmates of the residential school located in Jhaliyamari village under Narharpur police station limits of the Kanker district.
According to the police, medical examination had confirmed rape of nine out of the 40 inmates residing in the hostel.
The mother of the minor girl, who died four months back, had yesterday given an application to the Superintendent of Police, Kanker, seeking a probe into the death of her daughter following which an investigation was ordered.
Senior Congress leader Ajit Jogi had yesterday alleged that the deceased girl was sexually assaulted.

"A probe team comprising Chief Medical and Health Officer Ramteke and Block Medical Officer (BMO) in their report stated that the girl was suffering from severe jaundice with ascites due to which fluid had accumulated in her abdomen. Besides, she was also suffering from severe anaemia," the statement said.
According to the documents received from the Community Health Centre, Narharpur, the girl, a native of Deogaon village, was admitted on August 10 there and she died on August 14. "Her medical report confirmed that the minor died of cardio-respiratory arrest and multi-organ failure," the statement said.
"Doctors did their best to save the girl. She was being continuously kept under observation and was provided life saving medicines," it added.
The doctors had suggested her parents to admit her in any super-speciality hospital in the city, but they refused to do so. After taking a written confirmation from her parents for the treatment of the girl in the CHC, Narharpur, she was being treated there, the statement said.
