90 pc sowing of Rabi crops completed in C'garh

Nearly 90 per cent of sowing of various Rabi crops has been completed in Chhattisgarh, state Agriculture Minister Brijmohan Agrawal said today.

"The farmers have completedsowingofRabicropson around 14.66 lakh hectares of land against the proposed target of 17 lakh hectares in the state," he said.

Food graincrops, pulses, oilseeds and vegetables are being sown under the target, he said.

At present, wheat has been sown on nearly 1.58 lakh hectares against the proposed target of sowing wheatcropon 1.60 lakh hectares this season, the minister said.

The area to be covered under sowing of rice this season has been decreased.

The target is to sow rice only on 1 lakh hectare of which sowing on 63,000 hec has been completed so far, he said.
 

The department has set a target of sowing pulses on 8.75 lakh hectares. Till date, pulsescrop sowinghas been completed on over 8 lakh hectares, he said.

Besides, the department has proposed sowing of oilseedcropson 2.75 lakh hectares inRabiseason 2015-16.

So far, sowing of alsi, mustard, toriya, til, sunflower, kusum, peanut, and other oilseedcropson 2.20 lakh hectares has been completed, he said.

Vegetables have been cultivated on 1.41 lakh hectares while the sugarcane plantation was completed on 16,000 hectare area in this season, he added.
