Nearly 9,000 government doctors across the state today boycotted work for two hours to press for their demands of time-bound promotions and hike in rural allowance, a doctors' body said.

Doctors in hospitals, primary health centres, community health centres, district and referral hospitals and medical college hospitals across the state boycotted work from 8 AM to 10 AM, Dr Nasreen Bharti, representative of the All-Rajasthan In Service Doctors Association, said.

"The government is not serious about our demands. It had assured us of fulfilling our main demand of time-bound promotions, but many doctors are still awaiting promotions," she said.

"We are also demanding a hike of 25 per cent (of basic salary) in the rural allowance. The government had promised us that it will consider our demands in 2011, but we have been ignored. So, we decided to boycott work for two hours today," she said.

Bharti said the doctors would go on mass leave on September 18 if their demands are not met.
