930 quintals of pulses seized

Continuing raids for the second day today, the authorities seized surplus stock of pulses from a godown at Bada Bazara area in this southern Odisha town.

"We have detected around 930 quintals of surplus stocks in a godown during the raids," Additional tehsildar Berhampur, S S Patra who led the raids, said.

Yesterday, the district administration had seized surplus pulses of around 3,820 quintals from three gowdans.

"We have searched the gowdans of 16 traders located in Bada Bazar, Raja Sahi, Marthapeta Sahi and Desibehera Street during the last two days. Of them, four traders had stocked of around 4750 quintals of pulses," said a civil supply officer.
 

The permissible quantity of stock of a trader is 750 quintals, he said.

"We will file case against the traders who have surplus dal in their possession," Tehsildar(Berhampur), Rasmi Ranjan Nayak said.

Cases would be registered against them under the Essential Commodities Act, he said.

Besides tehsil staff, civil supply officials, market intelligence officials and police took part in the raids.
