A BJP delegation today called on

Uttarakhand Governor K K Paul to draw his attention to the forest fires and drought-like situation prevailing in many parts of the state.

The delegation led by Uttarakhand BJP president Ajay Bhatt, along with BJP Rajya Sabha member Tarun Vijay and Dehradun Mayor Vinod Chamoli, urged the Governor to take effective steps to control the forest fires which have claimed several lives and injured more than half a dozen people besides destroying vast stretches of forest cover.

The BJP leaders also drew the Governor's attention to drought-like situation prevailing in different parts of the state due to deficit rains this winter and asked him to exempt farmers from repaying their loans.

They also called for effective steps to deal with a possible drinking water crisis in the state due to soaring temperatures leading to drying up of the water bodies.

Bhatt also handed a letter to the Governor alleging people nominated by the previous Congress government were still holding their offices and availing all sorts of facilities.

Noting that with imposition of President's rule they had automatically lost their offices, the BJP leader said, they should immediately be relieved of their duties and facilities provided to them should be withdrawn.
