A five member gang, Including
the State Deputy General Secretary of PMK P Duraipandi was arrested today on charges of stealing the goat herds engaged on rent to fertilise fields in this district.
Police Superintendent Manivannan formed a special team to nab the "goat lifters" following series of complaints, which zeroed in on the gang headed by Duraipandi, police said.
The gang had confessed to have stolen 48 goats at Ilanthakootam, Devipattinam and Melakottai.
Police have recovered Rs 80,000 cash, five sovereigns of jewels and seven goats from them, police said.
They were remanded to judicial custody for fifteen days by the Ramanathapuram court.
