A new television series on Nancy Drew, the most famous female teen detective from the novels, is in works again.

After CBS attempted to float a similar project last year, NBC is developing a new show based on the iconic book series, reported Variety.

The new series follows "Nancy Drew" author, Carolyn Keene, who is confronted with a real-life murder mystery.

She turns to her two childhood best friends, who inspired her books, to seek help. But little does she know, they hold a grudge against her for portraying them in a poor light in her novels all those years ago.

This will be a completely different version from the original at CBS.

The new series is being created by writers and executive producers Tony Phelan and Joan Rater and executive producer Dan Jinks, who developed the CBS version.

A show titled "Nancy Drew" premiered in 1995, with Tracy Ryan in the eponymous role and lasted for 13 episodes.
