The national capital woke up to a rainy morning today and was drenched throughout the day, leading to the now predictable massive traffic jams in most parts of the city.

Rain gauges measured 11.6 millimeters of rain from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM, which was just moderately heavy but enough to choke the drainage system and leave large areas swamped.

The perennial problem of water logging in Monsoon led to traffic jams in several parts of the city including major intersections such as ITO, Laxmi Nagar, Kashmere Gate, South Extension, Aashram Chowk, Moolchand Underpass, Nehru Place, Dhaula Kuan etc.

However, the traffic police downplayed the issue.

"Traffic jams were reported from 25 points in the city including Azad Marg, Eidgah, Shanti Vana, Pul Prahaladpur, Gurudwara Nanakpura, Karola Mor among others. These jams were caused due to waterlogging but there were not too many of them as it was intermittent rain and not heavy showers," Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Anil Shukla.

The day temperature in the national capital was recorded at 30.4 degree Celsius which was three degrees below normal for this part of the year and significantly down from yesterday's 34.3 degree Celsius.

Minimum temperature was registered at 26 degree Celsius which was normal for this part of the year and 1.7 degrees below from previous day's 27.7 deg Celsius.

Weatherman has predicted a generally cloudy sky for tomorrow, with possibility of rains and thundershowers in some areas. The maximum and minimum is likely to remain 32 and 26 degrees Celsius respectively.
