As Ethan Hunt and his MI team members return for another world saving adventure in "Mission: Impossible - Fallout", the film's director says the journey on the screen closely mirrored their own race against time to finish the movie.
McQuarrie, who is the only director to helm a "Mission: Impossible" film twice after "Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation", saw "Fallout" last night with the international media here ahead of its premiere in Paris, a city that features prominently in the film.
The production on the movie, the sixth installment in the franchise, had to be stopped for a while after Hollywood star Tom Cruise, synonymous with his on-screen avatar of IMF agent Hunt, had injured himself while jumping from a building to another in one of the most crucial chase sequences in the film.
"You are the very first audience to see the film. We finished the film just five days ago. Tom Cruise saw the finished film last night," McQuarrie said addressing the media ahead of the film's screening last night.
"There is a very fine line that separates the experience of making a 'Mission: Impossible' from the experience of watching one. And the line has never been finer whether it was IMF, our crew, the trip around the globe or race against time, against impossible odds, ticking the clock down to the very last minute. All to pick up the pieces of a mission gone horribly wrong... I am incredibly proud of the hard work..." he said
The director said bringing the film to Paris was special as the city gave the team the access to some of its most iconic monuments to shoot.
"It is very special to be here in Paris. You are gonna see Paris celebrated like never before. We are grateful to be back to say thank you to the city. They have done so much for us," he said.
"Man of Steel" star Henry Cavill, "Black Panther" star Angela Bassett and "The Crown" star Vanessa Kirby are the newest additions to the franchise, while Rebecca Ferguson, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Alec Baldwin, Sean Harris and Michelle Monaghan are returning.
Without giving away the spoilers, it is safe to say that the film has a strong India connect though it was not shot here.
"Mission: Impossible - Fallout" releases July 27.
